आज ही खबर मिली कि अमेरिकी उल्लू भारत पहुँच गया है. यह भारत में कब, कैसे और क्यों आया यह शोध का विषय हो सकता है. यह भी शोध का विषय हो सकता है कि उसकी भारत के प्रति रूचि क्यों जागृत हुई .

बहरहाल अमेरिकन मॉली नाम का एक विरल प्रजाति का उल्लू तमिलनाडु के नागपट्टनम जिले में पाया गया है. थेरक्कुपोयगायनाल्लुर गांव में किसान अइयप्पन को अपने धान की खेत में यह घायल पंछी मिला. हो सकता है कि यह पंछी गांव के नाम से आकर्षित हुआ था. बहरहाल, किसान अइयप्पन ने उसके लिए दाना पानी का बंदोबस्त किया, जाहिर है कि रात के दौरान. दिन भर यह पंछी सोता रहा होगा. फिर जब शाम ढली तो उसे एक पशु चिकित्सक के पास ले जाया गया. इस बीच इस अजूबे पंछी को वन विभाग के सुपुर्द कर दिया गया है.

वैसे किसी को इस पक्षी के भारत आने पर आपत्ति नहीं होनी चाहिए क्योंकि पक्षियों के लिए सारा संसार एक घर है. अतः पक्षियों को सरहद पार करने के लिए बीजा या पासपोर्ट की जरुरत नहीं पड़ती . सरहद तो मनुष्य ने मनुष्य के लिए ही बनायें है. पक्षी सदा मनुष्य के बनाये हुए सरहद का मखौल उड़ाते है .

Rare breed of owl spotted at Nagai 

NAGAPATTINAM: A rare breed of owl, mostly found in North America, was spotted in a paddy field here by a farmer on Friday.  The nocturnal bird, which has suffered injuries, was handed over to the forest department.  Wildlife experts said that it belonged to a species named ‘Molly’ which was said to have originated from California in the USA.  Out of the 189 types of owls found in the world, Molly was an important variety.  The bird might have taken shelter in a ship and reached Nagapattinam, he said and added that it was also possible that it could have migrated on its own. The brown coloured bird was noticed by Aiyappan, a farmer of Therkkupoigainallur village, at a paddy field. It was found with injuries and was not in a position to fly.  He had brought it home and gave water to it.  Dr Asokan examined the bird and provided first-aid. Later, it was handed over to the Forest department.  After first-aid, the owl gained strength. Now it is under the care of Nagapattinam wildlife department.  NEWS
